After you have all been studying so hard for so long, post-exam season is finally upon us so take some time to unwind, spend time with your friends, or indeed do it alone if you fancy some “you-time”! This blog is going to reveal some of the best places in Lancaster to lay down your blanket and enjoy a picnic this summer!
Lancaster Canal
If you fancy an easy picnic for a quick lunch, Lancaster Canal is just a 15-minute bus ride away from Bailrigg Student Living and the perfect spot for a serene summertime picnic. As you stroll along the towpath, you’ll find plenty of spots to settle down with your picnic basket. Plus, if you’re up for an active afternoon with your flatmates, the canal is also great for a walk or a bike ride, making it an ideal place to enjoy the outdoors when the weather is dry. Remember to keep an eye out for ducks and swans!
Williamson Park
Every student loves Williamson Park, a short half-hour bus ride away from Bailrigg Student Living, this huge park is one of Lancaster’s gems. In addition to the famous Ashton Memorial, the seasonal flowers, ponds and trails, there are plenty of grassy areas perfect for picnicking! Whether you choose a shady spot under a tree or a sunny patch near the ornamental gardens, Williamson Park is a delightful choice for a day out.
Ryelands Park
Ryelands Park, which is either a 90-minute walk or a 13-minute bus ride from Bailrigg Student Living, is a quirky spot for a picnic. The park has vast open fields, perfect for laying down your blanket and enjoying a meal in the sun. Why not bring a rounders or cricket set and playa quick game with your flatmates after lunch? Plus, if you haven’t spotted enough ducks on campus the River Lune runs adjacent to the park, for all of your duck spotting needs!
Near Jubilee Tower
For those who love a bit of adventure, a picnic near Jubilee Tower is a fantastic option. Pop on your hiking boots because it’s an hour and 45-minute walk from Bailrigg Student Living, on the moorland in the Forest of Bowland. The walk to Jubilee Tower is part of the experience, with beautiful moorland views and fresh country air. Once you arrive at your picnic spot, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Lancaster, Morecambe Bay, and even the Lake District on a clear day.
