Sometimes, you don’t fancy cooking in your Lancaster student housing and are happy to let someone else do the hard work. Finty has pulled together her favourite dishes across Lancaster that are easy to reach from your student accommodation in Bailrigg Student Living.
A relatively new pizza place, Aquila was founded in 2020. A wood fired oven is used to produce fresh pizza that not even pizza express can beat. Reasonably priced, with lots of variety it’s a little pizza paradise.
Whale Tail is arguably the best vegetarian place to eat in Lancaster. With a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and a secluded patio garden there is a large selection of home cooked food to choose from. An added bonus is the refill shop next door to stock up on essentials!
The study room is a social bar and restaurant with food to suit all tastes. It is known among students for its pub quiz nights. On offer to eat are a multitude of traditional pub foods such as burgers, hot dogs, loaded fries and nachos as well as vegan and vegetarian options.
Located in the heart of Lancaster city centre, Nami Sushi offers authentic Japanese flavours using the very best of local Lancastrian produce. Sushi can be selected from a traditional conveyer belt as it passes by. There’s a selection of over 50 dishes ranging from £2.25 for a plate of sushi to £16.45 for a fillet steak!
If you prefer to support local businesses rather than going to subway, Moorish is the place for you. With a large selection of grab and go food, with speedy service, quality ingredients and telephone ordering if you’re in a hurry – it’s the perfect place to go for a quick bite to eat.
The Water Witch has an extensive menu to suite everyone. Located on the canal towpath and close to many private student halls, student houses and the nearby Chancellors Warf, it’s the perfect stop off when out for a Canalside walk. Perhaps the favourite dish among diners is the build your own deli board but there are also smaller plate versions of all the larger main course meals if you want a cheaper but hearty meal. Additionally, from September the burger, pizza and quiz nights are back.
Goburrito uses locally sourced, fresh ingredients to create mouth-watering burritos. Open Wednesday to Sunday 12pm-10pm, and located in the city centre, Goburrito also offers nachos, fries, and tacos.
Situated on Common Garden Street above the oriental supermarket, Full House noodle bar is a friendly and affordable place to eat. Serving great quality, traditional Chinese food, don’t let the outside appearance put you off! With good sized portions that won’t bust your budget, it’s well worth the visit.
Koko specialises in Hawaiian & Japanese food. The place specialises in poke which is the Hawaiian verb for “to slice or cut’. Poke consists of a bed of rice, proteins, veg toppings and sauce. The rest is up to you, with a range of toppings on offer. If you fancy a bowl of healthiness, then Koko is the place to go.
The multi award winning, Family-run Hodgson’s Chippy is a must visit. Who wouldn’t want to go to the National Fish & Chip shop of the year? Not only do they sell fish and chips but also quirky things like battered halloumi and mozzarella sticks, vegetarian and halloumi burgers for all the veggie people out there.
