Winter Activities in Lancaster

Some might say it’s a little early to start thinking about Christmas but at Bailrigg Student Living, we disagree! Being a student in this historic city has its perks, especially if you are new to Lancaster University and experiencing the Christmassy vibe in the beautiful city for the first time. At Bailrigg Student Living we understand that your uni experience goes further than where you choose to book your student  room in Lancaster. So, we want to give you our top picks for exploring Lancaster this winter and enjoying the student lifestyle outside of your accommodation.

As the nights draw in and your student accommodation in Lancaster becomes more cosy, now is the perfect time to experience the run up to Christmas with your flatmates. A quick 10 minute bus journey from Bailrigg Student Living to the town centre will take you to lots of different things going on in Lancaster this winter.

Lancaster Christmas Market - 19th - 21st November

The Lancaster Christmas Market in the Brewery is being hosted this year from the 19th to the 21st of November (3pm to 9pm), packed with stalls that will give you gift ideas for your friends and family, or maybe some festive decorations for your Lancaster student halls. There will be a lot of festive food on offer as well as mulled wine to warm you up on a chilly November evening! Having had one too many sweet treats from the food court stalls in the market you can take a stroll around Lancaster. The shops around the city will be having a competition this year for the best window display, adding that little bit of that Christmas magic to your new home.

Santa Cancer Care Dash - 28th November

Every year in Lancaster there is a very entertaining and fun event called the Santa Cancer Care Dash which happens during the day of the light switch on (Sunday 28th November). The run is in  aid of the cancer charity “Cancercare” and takes place at Morecambe Bay. You can catch a direct 50 minute bus from your home at Bailrigg Student Living  to Morecambe for just £4. Why not grab your Bailrigg flatmates and take part - who doesn’t love to dress up like Santa in the freezing cold for a good cause? You could even host an exclusively Santa Only gathering at your Lancaster student halls afterwards.

Light Switch On - 28th November

The Christmas light switch on is a perfect opportunity to bond with your friends at Bailrigg Student Living. This year there is a very exciting chance to see Little Minx (yes that is spelt right - unfortunately the Little Mix girls were too busy to get to Lancaster this year, so you’ll see the next best thing!) and go on a few rides all in one evening. This event is  just a short bus journey from your Lancaster uni accommodation and will really add to your overall university experience. This time of year can sometimes feel cold and dreary, so fun events like this are fantastic opportunities for you to look forward to the festive season and see how your city transforms into a winter wonderland!
