Packing for University: Your Essential Guide.

Heading off to uni is a big deal, especially if it’s your first time leaving home. At Bailrigg Student Living, we understand that moving can be a bit stressful. To help you out, we’ve put together a list of packing essentials to make your move smooth and easy. Follow these tips, and you'll be all set for your new adventure!

Team Up with Your Flatmates

Moving into a shared flat? Chat with your future flatmates before you go on a shopping spree. This way, you won’t end up with six spatulas and a dozen mugs. It’s a smart way to save space and money.

Essentials for Your Bedroom

Your bedroom will be your main hangout (apart from the library, of course). Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Duvet

  • Pillows

  • Bedsheet

  • Duvet Cover

  • Mattress Topper: Make your bed extra comfy with a mattress topper.

  • Washing Basket: Handy for carting your laundry to the washing machines.

  • Clothes Hangers

  • Extension Lead

Shop Smart

Sure, IKEA is great, but don’t forget about discount shops like B&M and Home Bargains. These places have loads of affordable stuff, from toiletries to kitchen gear. Also, check out Asda, Dunelm, and The Range for more budget-friendly options.

Kitchen Must-Haves

You’ll be cooking your own meals, so make sure your kitchen kit is sorted:

  • Mugs

  • Glasses

  • Bowls

  • Plates

  • Cutlery

  • Spatula

  • Oven Gloves/Tea Towel

  • Frying Pan/Wok

  • Saucepan

  • Cutting Board

  • Tupperware

Pack Like a Pro

For clothes, packing cubes are a lifesaver! They keep your stuff organised and save space. Separate your clothes into different cubes, and you’ll find what you need without any hassle (plus you can use them again for your summer holiday!).

Bathroom Basics

Make sure your bathroom is stocked with these essentials:

  • Towels (large and small)

  • Bathmat

  • Toilet Roll

  • Toothbrush and Toothpaste

  • Body Wash

  • Shampoo and Conditioner

  • Hand Soap

Pack Only What You Need

It’s easy to overpack, but try to bring just the essentials. If you need something later, you can always buy it or borrow it. This way, your packing will be light and easy to manage.
