Exploring Clearing 2023: A Pathway to Lancaster University

Are you considering applying to Lancaster University but wondering about the Clearing process? Let us guide you through the ins and outs of Clearing and how it can be beneficial to you, regardless of your circumstances.

What is Clearing?

Clearing is an opportunity provided by UCAS for students to apply for university places that have not yet been filled, outside of the normal application window. Contrary to popular belief, Clearing isn't just for individuals who didn't meet their conditional offer requirements. It can be a viable option for various situations.

We understand that watching  your friends secure spots in their desired university courses without going through the clearing process can sometimes make you feel isolated. However, the reality is quite different. Every year, thousands of students navigate through the clearing process, and it's nothing to be anxious about because there are always alternative pathways and options available.

When does Clearing open in 2023?

In 2023, Clearing will be open from 5th July to 17th October. During this period, you can explore the available courses on UCAS, as nearly every university participates in Clearing. This means you'll have thousands of courses to choose from!

How does Clearing work?

To start your Clearing journey, log in to your UCAS account or create one if you haven't already. Once you're in, you can browse the listings of available courses starting from 5th July.

When you find a course that aligns with your interests and goals, get in touch with the university or college directly to discuss your application. Upon receiving permission, add your Clearing choice to your UCAS application, allowing the university or college to officially accept you.

It's important to note that if your exam results don't meet the requirements of your conditional offer, you will automatically be entered into Clearing on results day. However, if your university has already confirmed your place regardless of your results, you may not need to go through the Clearing process.

Who can utilise Clearing?

Clearing is available to students who don't currently hold an offer from another university or college and if the desired course still has available places. You can take advantage of Clearing if:

  • You are applying after 30th June.

  • You didn't receive any offers or didn't find any offers you wanted to accept.

  • You didn't meet the conditions of your offers.

  • You have paid the multiple-choice application fee of £27.

  • You have declined your firm place using the 'decline my place' button in your application (this is where you can “level up’ your application if you get better results than predicted).

For instance, a degree apprenticeship allows you to work and study simultaneously, earning a salary while gaining industry experience. This option grants you the opportunity to pursue an undergraduate or master's degree without incurring tuition fees.

The UCAS website offers a comprehensive list of exciting degree apprenticeships available in various fields like finance, engineering, journalism, and healthcare. Take a look and find the perfect fit for your career aspirations.

Support for Post-School or College Decisions.

They provide a free-to-use exams hub, accessible online, where you can find valuable resources.
